The Monster Inside

Context: I took this one on holiday with me, lovely to read by the pool, only took me about a day, the luxury! I had read this one when it was first out, I am pretty sure I did. The story completely left my mind so I was approaching this as a new read…almost anyway.

THE REVIEW

What I thought: Enjoyed it, got somewhat lost in what was going on at times but the inclusion of the Slytheen (and associated slimy relations) made for a tremendously fun read. I though the relationship between Rose and the 9th Doctor was very strong indeed here, with the doctors worry over what was going on with Rose coming across really well, as was some of the humour when the doctor ends up sharing a cell with the Slytheen. It’s really funny in parts as well. The conclusion lost me a bit but that was more to do with my chilled/holiday booze brain rather than any issue with the writing

Rating: 4 out of 5 Daleks (great fun)

What I felt? Generally this made me feel really happy. Very evocative of 2005 and the return of Who, a time of much excitement. Unreal really, such an amazing return. If the new RTD era doesn’t quite work out, he’s a legend for series 1 alone.

What am I left thinking?

  • Not a lot, just that I am looking forward to the next one!

Memorable bits

– The Slytheen nest!

– The other Slytheen family

– It was like reading this for the first time
