Context: really looked forward to the next instalment of the 13 doctors adventures, both released so far have been great and I like the bi-monthly release of these adventures, as well as not really knowing what they are in advance. Onward…
THE REVIEW
What I thought: this is a historical adventure, which I liked a lot, and one which features a bit of history I am not that familiar with, I.e. 13th century medieval Henry and Eleanor. So, setting is a big tick for me, the thing that threw me was the contemporary lingo from both Eleanor and Henry (who are portrayed as being very close despite the fact they were pretty much constantly at war, court intrigues, rebellious children….not sure I really bought that). Despite this niggle, my preference rather than this being bad, the story evolves into a fairly standard alien perversion of human history…ends up being pretty good fun.
Yaz and 13 have a more fun adventure here, less angst and arguments, it’s nice to a have a break every now and again and have a bit of a run around . There is quite a lot of pathos in this one, with the lost child returning etc….solid story and nice to be back with this overlooked TARDIS team.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 rotting capons: solid, if unremarkable, but fun nonetheless.
What I felt: happy to have an hour or so to spend in the 13th Doctors company.
What am I left thinking/feeling/wanting?
- More really, more of this incarnation and this era
- More historical please (with alien twists)
Memorable bits
- The rotting banquet
- The boy in the mirror
