Context: the incredibly annoying context here is this is the second time I am writing this review, having accidentally deleted the original, anoying! If I hadn’t have enjoyed this set so much I may not have bothered, but I did, so here we go again!

THE REVIEW

What I thought

1.1 The Final Cut – what a great start to this new run of 11th Doctor adventures. Miles is fantastic as the 11th Doctor, and Eleanor is already a brilliant companion, so well played by Jasmine Bayes . The story itself is all about memory, with Fong industries using inappropriate tech to erase clients memories, leading to ghost like apparations and general chaos. The story is sound, but mainly this is all about introduing Eleanor, who is fantatsic!

1.2 The Tourist Trap – space Florida! A weird space resort for rich tourists, and a mystery that no-one is about is perfect for Eleanor’s first adverture in space. The resort AI is corrupted and is running amok, making all sorts of murderous decisions to keep the resort ‘perfect’. I can’t recall a lot more about this story (see context above) but it was good, and leads to some tricky reflections for Eleanor, and the 11th Doctor to some extent as well.

1.3 A Delusion of Witches – occasionally a BF story comes along that I think is pretty special, and leaves behind a very clear impression of story, emotion and memory, such is this power of this episode. Set during the Salem witch trials the Doctor plays a fantastic lead role in proceedings, steering the jury and quickly working out what is going on alien-incursion wise. This leads to some amazing stuff around what ‘race purity’ means, and lots of interesting comparisons with the witch trial itself. Some great stuff with the Doctor and Eleanor here, specifically the new companion learning what can and can’t be changed. Some terribly heart breaking scenes with Mary, and her chickens….shed some tears at this one I admit. A very special episode.

Rating: 4 out of 5 bow ties: a barnstorming return for the 11th Doctor, unccanily played to perfection here and a great new companion in Elanor. Loved it and i think the final story is spectacular.

What am I left thinking?

• Can the quality remain for the next set? I really hope so
• What arc is being laid out here for Elanor? No idea what this may be but I reckon something is in the works here, hints that I have probably missed

Memorable bits

• X chickens had me in floods, as did the eulogy of witch trial victims…so sad.
• Starship Scotland!
