Written by Scott Handcock David Llewellyn
Starring Juliet Landau and Sophie Aldred
Originally released: February 2015
Listened to: May 2026
Context: clearly coming very late to this one, and as I got to the last episode I realised I listened to this one last year! However, I was enjoying it so much I carried on with it. I really liked all my Gallifrey listens last year, and with a new boxset (War room) coming June 2026 then its time to get cracking with the remaining boxsets (planning some long bike rides soon so these are perfect for those, fingers crossed the weather improves).
THE REVIEW
What I thought: a very interesting story, one big arc that is all about a cult on Gallifrey that is trying to bring Omega back! Hooray, I bloody love Omega (although Stephen Thorne isn’t in it much; take note new who Season 2 Omega; holds head in hands). Ace is used really well here, out there away from Gallifrey as a key CIA agent, with Gyles Brandreth as Aces CIA contact and fellow Timelord agent Rex, who turns out to be on the side of the adherants of Ohm!
As expected Narvin and New Romana are desperatly trying to stop the return of the legendary stellar engineer. There is some great stuff on Gallifrey to start the adventure, with folks stabbing each other in the back, a black hole turning up and causing havoc and the search for the hand of Omega. The second half of the adventure returns to ye olde world England and the stone-ish henge, where timelord Rexx is working to bring Omega back (I really like GB’s performance here I must say). This takes a turn when he ends up regenerating into a familiar baddie from previous boxsets, its all rather cool and the ending is very dark, with a retuned Omega (now in the body of Lucas) escaping and leaving our heroes in a dying TARDIS near a black hole/imploding universe…very cool ending.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Gel Guards – I really liked this one, very much enjoy Omega as a protagonist, this one got me straight back into the mindset of Gallifrey and the crazy intrigues, twists and turns that entails. I would have liked a little more of Stephen Thorne as original Omega but Scott A is great as his new form….what next for the team? Big trouble is ahead me thinks.
What I felt: I
- Delighted to be back listening to Gallifrey BF stories again
What am I left thinking?
- How our team get out of this
- Will we still continue with Future Romana
- What happens now to Omega?
Memorable bits
- Future Romana – I love this protrayl of her
- Narvin being Narvin, what a great character
- Ace is good in this, and I think plays the whole CIA agent stuff really well
