Context: mad to think this was out 10 years ago! I am entering this a little confused knowing that Lalla Ward is back as Romana, and no Omega?!? No idea what is going on…..

THE REVIEW

What I thought: so this rather threw me to start with Lalla Ward back as original Romana, and no mention of Omega or future Romana?!? It seems that in order to sort out things Braxiatel goes back in time to warn an earlier Romana about what is kicking off, and therefore getting her to stop the cycle of events that allows Omega to escape. Bit of a cop out I thought, and it means we dont get any more of new Rommana, who I really liked. Anyway, the adventure starts quickly, with Romana (and then Leela) on a space ship with a mad computer that appears to have killed everyone (good fun), then its back to Gallifrey with Romana putting aside the prersidency for Ceclie Imri’s timelady wannabe president, who is fab by the way.

Then it’s on to Gallifrey for political shenanigans, and Gallifrey in general pissing off allies and choosing badly who to support. It’s all a bit of a blur to be honest but we get some lovely stuff with Leela and Romana etc, and as we get to the last third of the tale, returning to the spaceship and the potential for Romana regenerating to save the universe from the ‘omega timeline’. Turns out it isn’t Romana who ends up saving the day but this version of Leela, who sacrifices herself on the ship in order to stop that timeline heading toward the death of Gallifrey, black holes, Omega etc, you get the picture…at least I think that is what happened at the end.

Rating: 3 out of 5 timelines – despite being terribly confused listening to this one, and not being able to provide an actual concise breakdown of the story above (soz!), I did still enjoy the listen, in particular scenes between Romana and Leela, Ace is great as well, fitting right into the intrigues of Gallifrey. I was disappointed not to have a reckoning with Omega and sad not to have new Romana any more though.
