Took me a hile to get to listen to this one as I am on a UNIT mission, but the gap occured and I was really looking forward to this one. Hooray!

THE REVIEW
What I thought
2.1 Tyranny of the Judoon by Ben Tedds – very much enjoying being back in the company of the 11th Doctor and Eleanor from the exciting opening of this episode. This one starts at high pace and pretty much doesn’t let off for the whole adventure. There is a crashing airship, followed by planetary shennanigans involving the shadow proclamation and the Judoon, who make an appearance en masse pretty quickly and seem, at least initially to be the main protagonists of this story. The TARDIS team split up early, each experiencing their own mini adventures, Eleanor’s in particular being exciting and sad, with the death of poor old Octavia who was a lovely character, as is Cromarty who is with the Doctor for much of this adventure. The Judoon at least initially seem to be the baddies but soon becomes clear they have been played….by the Slytheen Shim and Phan! What a great cliffhanger here at the end, no spoilers!!
2.2 Gambit of the Judoon by Ben Tedds – so we have the second part to the previous episode, which continues with the dastardly plot from Shim and Phan, naughty (and hilarious) Slitheens that they are. Their plan is all about seeking revenge on their pacifist cousins who are from the planet Ariteph, who have been in a planetary witness protection programme, a planet discussed as another planet basically. Cracking idea and delivered with so much fun in this adventure. Nick Brigg’s Judoon Captain Sydon is greta fun as well, and a great companion for the Doctor in this adventure, with Eleanor in custody, and having her own mini adventure with the cyborg Ivigilator Kollo. Fantastic story, battling Phan and Shim is brilliant, funny and exciting, lots of skin swapping and trying to work out sho is real and who is a one of our yorkshire accented fart machine criminals…with quite a tease at the end and a return to Lake Silencio?! Great episode!
2.3 Wanted Dead and Alive by Beth Axford – So a stand alone episode here (more so anyway), where it seems someone is trying to stop the Doctor being killed at the aforementioned lake. We have the Doctor, Eleanor and Captain Sydon (our Judoon companion of the boxset) trying to stop them…with me so far? It’s an interesting conceit and works well, although I got a little lost at times, with some odd alternative uni verse type/dream sequences with lots of Nick Brigg’s shaped alternative Doctors, a weird creature/companion (Malk) a mate of the doctor/former companion possibly, although turns out they are trying to save the Doctor, which in this story makes him the ‘baddie’ (I think??)…I wasn’t convinced by this episode I admit, but it was good fun and moves on the journey Eleanor is on with our bow tied hero.
Rating: 4.2 out of 5 tweed jackets: another great entry into the 11th doctor cannon, fantastic stuff. Eleanor continues to impress as a new companion and Miles T is brilliant as the doctor. The two parter is brilliant, great use of both the Judoon and the Slytheen…with some interetsing ideas in the final episode.
What am I left thinking?
- What exactly is going on re: lake Silencio and what is going on in Eleanor’s past…we shall find out soon i am sure
Memorable bits
- Judoon captain Sydon is so in-intentionally funny
- Shim and Phan are brilliant
- Lake Silencio returns!
