What I thought:

15.3 Green and Pleasant Planet by Tim Foley: a very interesting idea, with a space British Empire heading to work out what has gone astray with a probe/satellite. All quite whimsical and funny, especially when we see the tiny ‘model village’ set up of the planet, tiny red buses, post boxes and all. It’s very Gulliver’s travels in space, which is a good thing in my book. Tom and Sadie are on good form here, trying to work out what is going on. It’s a fairly standard episode in some respects but with an intriguing set up at its heart, great episode. Perfect fourth Doctor story.

15.4 The Continuum by John Dorney – this is another great episode, so much fun. This on is set in space, with a whole series of shenanigans around a new form a space travel and a space pilot of the new tech going missing. This one has perhaps a bit more jeaporady than the other episodes in this boxset, with dead spacemen/women pretty quickly returning as a weird and psychic gestalt type creature. In some ways, like the first episode, this is a very familiar type of story, with an intriguing set up, Tom B has some great stuff if the alien here, brilliant stuff.

15.5 The Audience by Lizzie Hopley – this is an interesting one, perfect setting for this period of the fourth doctor, travelling along with Sarah, funny, sharp, alien and very bohemian. The setting for this one is a planet of androids, and they initially seem to be making captured humans endlessly act and reciting poetry, do some art, that kind of vibe. Turns out that the chief bad alien wants to become human which leads to the Doctor potentially having his hearts taken out, and in the other main strand of the story leads to Sarah leading a rebellion on stage, breaking the fourth wall and all. I actually learnt something from this one, about theatre and the art of acting, great stuff and wonderfully written. Again, very specific to this incarnation and era of Who. Love it.

Rating: 3.8 out of 5 miniature unicorns: the fourth doctor adventures are a bit like a warm audio bath for me, relaxing, comforting and very lovely. This set is no exception, nice variety of stories, great performances and audio (as always is top notch), with some deeper stuff in that final episode in particular but that’s not really what these sets are all about. Lovely as always to have new adventures for the Fourth doctor and Sarah.

What am I left thinking?

• Not a lot, more a hope than a thought, that these continue for many years to come.
